But mostly the best! I've enjoyed checking in to the posts here for the last several months, and figured why not add a few memories of my own. I attended K-9 and KHS, graduating in 1972. I lived in Takada Heights until my last year or so there when we moved in to the New (well, at the time) Sebille Manor on Kadena.
When I arrived on Okinawa I was barely 14, shy, and not too happy to be there. Most of my life had been spent moving around from base to base, school to school. The only times...

My dad, Bernard Wrye, was in charge of the pool on Naha AFB way back then. He had 3 good buddies that worked with him, Seichii, Koichii, and Shinko. They were inseparable, much to mom's dismay. Dad and mom returned from a visit to Okinawa today and dad had to call and say he found his 3 buddies after all these years. He found the street that Seichii lived on and walked up and down the street yelling his name until someone came out and told him where Seichii lived. Now imagine my dad, 68...

Luckily, most of my friends from PMS went to KHS with me. The best memories I have are of weekend nights on Plaza Housing(upper) when we would stay out to the wee hours, just hanging or the ongoing game of Flashlight Tag.
I remember my last 6 months on OKI because summer came early(like usual) and we went to the beach...

The center piece is located at the botanical gardens. We used to go there when I went to PMS and once or twice with KHS Japanese 1 class. My brothers and I grew up on Oki from Dec 76 to June 1980 when Jonathan graduated. We walked across the island from west to east across the highest point which I think was called Yonaha-dake or something like that. We spent the night on top of the hill & it turned out to be the coldest it got to be during my time on Oki. The pictures are from a game against one of the local high schools. Those games really weren't fair but I guess you could think of it as payback for the beatings I took in 9th grade soccer.
