When I lived in Okinawa 1968-1970 I got a Mamasan apron. It was white cotton. I loved the loose fit and the sleeves which both made it comfy and provided excellent coverage when cooking or baking. Last year a friend of mine found a pattern and made me one as I had told her of it.

The recent posting about George Lee's death and his memorial service made me a little reflective. I also discovered the dragon memorial section on this Bulletin board via Sherry's reference to it today, for the very first time.

As one who works with death and dying all of the time, and have done so for 28 years, I'm struck how the deaths of classmates affect me. It's quite different than the professiuonal arena. Well, I'm trying my best to learn the language of the land of the rising sun. After my trip back to Japan and Okinawa in 2006 I began to look forward to the next one in 2009. In the meantime, my wife Joan and I took Japanese I at the local Community college in the the continuing education dept. on Tuesday nights for 10 weeks this past winter.
