Update: He is out of intensive care, post transfusions, and stable.
His level of conciousness ebbs and flows however when he is awake, he
is cognizant and able to express himself: The saving grace to this is
that he denies being in a lot of pain. He is at WakeMed 6C-09 which is
an ortho floor. He is allowed visitors now, but if you elect to
visit, please read the cues as to how long to stay. He is quite weak
and exhausted. He has gotten out of bed with two PT assist and into a
chair twice now and slept for hours afterward as it really wiped him
out. He despises the food, which I take as a good sign, however states
that if he has to eat what is prepared, he will never get out of the
hospital! His diet is fairly controlled right now so we can't bring
him in a goody bag: Secondary to the cortisol overload that comes with
traumatic injury he is having to take insulin currently. We are
awaiting last nights' MRI results to see if he will have to have knee
surgery also.

To my Kubasaki family of 40+ years: Thank you for all the support,
prayers and good thoughts that have been sent for Dick, myself and the
children. We can feel your strength. You can't know how much it means
to have all of you so close right now: We truly are an extended family
for which I am so very thankful! Robert and Irene, thanks for the
Aloha. Stay informed, get connected and more with AOL on your phone.
