A great insight into an area we are sorely lacking ability to understand.

A little story to show how confused we are about the nation we are now adding more destruction to.

In 1986 I left active duty at Nellis AFB and took a ART (Air Reserve Technician) GS12 position with the 90th Airlift Wing assigned to Andrews AFB, Maryland.

As Chief of Intelligence it was boring to say the least after Nellis and other assignments, boring that is until Larry Church, formally Major Gen Larry Church Commander Air Force Intelligence, showed up with our Wing Commander BG Jones and informed me that I was to prepare a brief on Soviet Tanks and APC's for a group of "foreign " gentlemen.

I did just that got it ready and on the assigned date, at the assigned time briefed about twenty ragged guys, most of whom had only rudimentary English comprehension and speaking ability. They were all members of the Mujaheeden (Sp) from Afghanistan.

The briefing was classified secret but I was orderd by the boss to go ahead and told that it was all good. The unit had I found our later been used to move food and medical supplies overseas in support of these fighters under the guise of Presidential flight support, we moved his car around alot.

The interesting thing was that the group was broken into obvious clinques. About four or five to a group each representing I found out a different rebel force and in most cases tribe.

They wouldn't speak much to each other, nor sit close to one another but were all obviousily united in the idea of killing as many Russians as they could.

Just found that interesting. Kind of proves the old Arab saying I'd hear in Saudi all the time , " It's me against my brother, but its my brother and I against you".
