Super Typhoon Rita was the first typhoon we experianced when we got to Okinawa and as the years went by I started questioning myself on wether it really did that loop I remember. After reading this string I looked it up and found this chart.

I also found out that one of the most popular submarine stories I heard on my old boat (USS BARB) was the rescuing of downed B-52 crewmen in the middle of a Typhoon. The Barb rescued four of the crewman while the Gurnard rescued a fifth member of the 6 man crew. One crewmember died. Submarines are not designed to ride on the surface very well in rough sea conditions and what these two boats did was nothing short of a miracle (Google it for a great story). The connection I never relized until two days ago was the rescue took place in the middle of Rita.
